I suggested using KDE System Monitor to find the resource, see feedback in post #24

Summary in post #29; OP has several systems with different Slackware OS versions, but the polling only occurs on some of them and on those it's only when in KDE and Xfce. Not in Fluxbox, Sddm or at console...


Something in either DEs clearly starts the polling service, so my questions are...

Can a process really be invisible?

Any suggestions on how to pinpoint the culprit?

Don't we agree that whatever the cause is, this is poor coding or a possible bug?
