I am generally a very happy Kate user. But today strange things happened. As you can see on the screen shot below, Kate suddenly wastes the lower part of the editor window. I am not sure how that happened, and I can't see how to recover it.

(This seems to be the only (working) way to attach an image.)

I also accidentally removed the top bar menu, and there doesn't seem to be a way of recovering it, so I had to manually edit 2 settings in ~/.config/katerc

That's not very practical...!

Does nobody care about this - somewhat embarrassing - error in Kate?
It's not satisfactory, that 1 forth of the screen has become useless!

I'm just exploring kate now, but I think this is how you got the display you have.

First, you closed all the tools that would show on the left such as the filesystem browser.

Second, you activated the "Current Project" mode, probably via the button that is on the bottom "sidebar." I'm not sure yet what "Current Project" is supposed to do.

I hope this helps.

I can only reproduce this "look" with the terminal window enabled ( which you kinda seem to have). https://imgur.com/a/Osa6yAt

This realm's name is Maya. And she speaks Hertz. But Ahamkara makes a fuzz about it.

Hi bobcollinsx

I don't seem to have received any notifications about your reply.
Yes! That helped! I simply clicked on 'Current Project' on the bottom line of the window!
'Current Project' switches the empty space on and off...
