I'm using Kate 21.12.3. I was editing file with tabbed indentation and Kate removed tabs at end of lines even though the option for removing whitespace upon saving is "Never".
I tested now with a fresh file and both tabs and spaces at end of line are preserved.
What might be the problem?

A line like 297 has a tab in an otherwise empty line and it was removed.
However, now I can't reproduce even with that file.
