I know I can either install updates when Discover notifies me they are available or via pkcon using the command line.
When I use Discover it usually asks me to restart, shows that it is installing updates and then reboots following the installation. If I use pkcon, updates are installed - and should I choose to reboot it does not go through the 'updating' process but simply restarts. So my question is, which is best? Should I use Discover for all updates? Is there a downside to using pkcon? Informative advice would be welcomed. |

I personally use Discover. It is very easy to use.

Hi!
Discover uses "offline updates" as a default. A reboot is only needed on updating the kernel or system libs. The offline updates works around and installs downloaded updates on the next reboot to not break any running application. If you use pkcon/apt you install them on the fly and have to decide yourself if a reboot is needed or some of your services or application need to be restarted. |
