Since I created a new user on Kubuntu 21.4 the KDE Wallet keeps asking for the password.
I don't remember ever assigning a password to the wallet... the wallet asks for a password on the new user account that was never assigned.... also I can see in the settings of the wallet NO possibility to assign a password. UPDATE in my Admin main account I could create a password for a new wallet, but after each boot I have to type this password, thats wasn't before creating the new user. AND in the new user account I can't create a password, as the wallet cant be opend since it is still asking for a password ... kdewalltet5 password or similar... I then disabled the wallet subsystem, but the system no longer stores the WIFI passwords. Falkon is also constantly asking for the wallet, even after I set the password storage for another database... A disaster since the new user was created... how can I turn this off again so that the wallet disappears BUT the WIFI passwords remain stored. Thanks for Help |

Obviously, the developers themselves are overwhelmed with the consequences of the inconsistencies that have arisen.

Hi!
A Kubuntu 21.4 does not exist. Linux Mint has 2-digit-1-digit numbers. Are you talking about this? The current Kubuntu release is 22.04. KWallet is by default active on many distributions including Kubuntu. As this wallet has to be unlocked before usage, there is a PAM routine in SDDM which does this for you, but only if the passwords match. See KWallet on ArchWiki or similar pages for an explanation how you clean up your disaster. It is as simple as giving the wallet a correct name and a matching password, but the journal can hold more information about wrong user permissions and such things. |

PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) is a technique to configure different authentication methods, like password, fingerprint, voice, whatever. SDDM (Simple Desktop Display Manager) is the chosen display manager (login manager where you enter your name and password to enter a desktop session).
