Discover has stopped showing the featured page of apps and just opens to a screen that says, "Unable to load applications Please verify Internet connectivity." If I search for an app or click on applications everything functions fine, I am getting updates to installed apps it just won't show that first page.

Hi. Could you run Discover through the terminal and post the output?

Here is what it showed:

I found this page: https://www.mail-archive.com/kde-bugs-d ... 87668.html and tried launching Discover one backend at a time and found that it only gives me the "Unable to load applications Please verify Internet Connectivity" when launching using the packagekit-backend. Using kns-backend and fwupd-backend it just says "Unable to load applications" without the internet connectivity message, all the others are fine.

Changing the default source in settings to Snap or Flatpak stops it from loading that screen first but doesn't fix the underlying issue of why it is doing that.

That's good info, I suppose it have to do with the solution I found.
Looking for this error:
Code: Select all
org.kde.plasma.libdiscover: Couldn't find a category for "fwupd-backend"

I found this thread. So the correct way for you to install discover would be:
Code: Select all
apt update
apt install discover appstream

Let me know if it worked.

I had found a page that suggested that as well and it was already installed. Did a reinstall of appstream but no change. Same behavior and terminal output when opening discover

Make sure you have installed packagekit, flatpak, and fwupd. For more information, read this thread.
If you had set a language different than American English, take a look at this thread. At least in Manjaro, Discover may crash if that's the case.
The lines related to the file
Code: Select all
file:///usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/qml/org/kde/kirigami.2/PageRow.qml

is related to a known bug
Reddit is not a good source, but take a look at this comment. Apparently, Kubuntu has issues with new features or latest modifications from upstream.

it's funny but, are sure you give the full output? I think there's some lines missing.
I give you mine on the next comment. Discover works just fine on my system.

This behavior is deprecated.
You have to import QtQml 2.15 after any QtQuick imports and set
the restoreMode of the binding to fix this warning.
In Qt < 6.0 the default is Binding.RestoreBinding.
In Qt >= 6.0 the default is Binding.RestoreBindingOrValue.

I have all those installed and if I load Discover with each backend by itself it works and I can install/see apps just not on the Home page of discover when using packagekit which is the featured page.

American English is my language selection, never changed it.

I give you mine on the next comment. Discover works just fine on my system.

And Discover works fine on my laptop on KDE Neon, something happened as i was setting up, installing and updating things on this Kubuntu install on my desktop because it was working initially. Thanks for your help in trying to trouble shoot things. Perhaps a future update will bring it back to life. I mean it doesn't seem to break anything as I can still search, update and install apps.

It looks like i fixed it without intending to. I was trying to install lm-sensors using apt and it wasn't working. Was getting an message that read:

Package lm-sensors is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Asked about that message on the #kubuntu irc channel was told I needed the universe repo. Added that, install my lm-sensors and when I went back into Discover I found it was working as intended. I am wondering if through my messing arounds I somehow removed that repo. I tested it out and removed it again, opened discover and got the same error as before. Re-added it then opened discover and it worked just fine.

It happens. I always said that you learn a lot more by breaking things that by fix it. I burned my first hard drive. One day, the partition where I had all my data just disappeared of the thin air. To this day, I still don't know why.

Breaking things is part of the learning process.

Definitely agree. It’s also part of the fun.
