I'd like to see what some apps call virtual folders (Opera), labels (Chromium) or saved searches (Thunderbird) be adapted for KDE in regards files management.
Basically this would allow the creation of a virtual folders based on a rule set consisting of a combination of attributes such as mime type, extension, file name, date, content and meta-data. Attributes would be combined using and, or, contains, begins with, equals and regular expressions (regex would be an advanced option). There would be a popup dialog that would visually assist the user thru the creation of new virtual folders Obviously Nepomuk would be the basis for this though it would be nice if it could be implemented without file indexing as many people don't use nor want to use it - in such a case then the use of data content would be grayed out. My guess this is already on someones white board somewhere |

Sounds like a bit like Windows Libraries feature but with more of a semantic desktop approach. It's a great idea, for instance I could create a virtual folder containing all of the Rock music acts from the year 2011 with a personal rating of 4/5 stars.

This is already possible, I believe, there is just no GUI for it.

I think it's a more complex symlinking that looks at metadata/filestype/location etc.
