In my opinion, since resources on the internet is being more and more important, we need to connect the desktop / workspace to the Internet, and blur the boundaries between the cloud and local machine. This might not be done with Google's Chrome OS idea. There is no point in pushing everything in the cloud. The cloud should be some backup area, and data from the Internet should be downloaded to our desktop in order to be used.
The idea is to have a workspace that is aware of Internet data, and that can use data from the internet without browser. (Actually, in the perfect KDE desktop, the less I open Konqueror / Firefox / Rekonq the better it is). KDE has already some projects about this idea : Silk (http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Silk). But I think that this idea of "silkness" must be in the center of KDE workspace : being able to interact with internet resources easily, and everywhere. Some big ideas: - Unified, reliable communication system (mails, IM, VOIP etc.) - Blurring local data and internet resources: - Dolphin able to browse local data / FTP / SSH + Owncloud / DropBox / Google drive etc - Amarok able to listen to local music + Grooveshark / Deezer / Youtube (a bit like Tomahawk) - Collaborative editing - Sharing / Backup made easy This idea is the central point of many small ideas that are developed in this section. Subsections are : 1. Central accouts management 2. Sharing made easy 3. Internet is on my desktop ! 4. Communications center and more coming Minor ideas : 1. A centraliezed GHNS app 2. A forum viewer app BTW, feel free to add your ideas to make KDE desktop "silker" |
