EDIT: After looking at the open issues in the tracker i realize that the below ideas are already planned... as i should have guessed by the developers working on this, and by the name "homerun"
I think this topic was grazed upon by Shaun's blog... and i figured since he's working on this, that it might be useful to bring up now: http://sreich.blogspot.com/2012/03/runn ... -both.html Runners (KRunner Plug-Ins) should be integrated into such a launcher. This would not only fill the void in the launcher where Unity has "lenses", but it would show that krunner has had such functionality from a long time ago and it works so well. In my mind KDE really got this idea going but they didn't make it fun and easy for casual users to find and use. (Gnome is also planning to expand their "search providers" functionality to incorporate this experience) Krunner at the very least needs a widget/launcher, with a friendly interface to select/highlight/deselect runners as they search. BUT, I think that integrating it into a launcher would make things so much more streamlined and succinct. See how the lenses in unity's launcher changed a lot of people's minds who hated it to begin with. If you can match that simple fun user experience with the modular nature and customization of KDE, a user can't ask for more

after using I have some more personal ideas
Like the kicker launcher, and most all launchers, activating the launcher and then immediately typing should input text into the top right feild and search vs filter. I think people will find it weird that text just appears in the middle and not in the box they assume it will appear in. And I just don't know many people that would want to filter more than search in a launcher environment. Searching basically filters it down to what you would want anyways. just my personal observations not expecting everyone to agree

This has been integrated yesterday. |

Runners are already integrated in homerun: all search results (not results which appear at startup, results which appear only when you search) come from runners. |

Yes thanks for the reply, sorry like i said i realized the thing about the runners after looking at the github.
Just some testing feedback - typing behavior now works awesomely. You all are doing a great job. Also I cannot say how much I appreciate the fact that the home page shows favorite vs recently used. It's already the most usable launcher of KDE right now to me. Question about IDEAS: Should feature/design ideas be submitted/proposed using this thread or the issue tracker. some projects say it's stupid to post on the thread and to do it on a tracker or mailing list. Some people think it's best to have the brainstorm outside of the official developer area. I'd like to submit some ideas in the least annoying way. If I don't hear anything I'll just post purely on the forum thread, which will hopefully keep the thread popular so better ideas than mine can join the party.

Proposal for Scroll and Grab Experience (fancy idea rant)
Introduction --- I like that immediate click-drag scrolls the interface around like people are getting used to these days with multiple form factor based interfaces. This proposal is to keep the idea of click-drag=scroll and introduce click+"long-hold"=grab and to show how this system can stay consistent yet include awesome interaction elements. When I refer to "Runner" in this post, I'm referring to krunner-plugins that will be picked to be separate homerun plugins that have their own tab and page in the SAL, separate from the plugins show under "Nepomuk Desktop Search Runner". I'm only referring to them as such because I'm not sure they have a term yet. (please refer to this assigned issue - https://github.com/blue-shell/homerun/issues/44) Part 1 - Basic Content/Icon "Grabbing" Interaction --- The vital part of this, would include "long holding" content/icons to "grab" from the application/documents runner so they can be dragged and dropped on a launcher/desktop/homescreen/program. I think that this would also allow dragging and reordering favorites on the favorites/home view. This is what is what I think people will expect as basic functionality. The next two parts are about extending the functionality of click-drag-scroll and long-hold-grab to the runners/interface. Part 2 - Grabbing Runners, Multiple Multipurpose Launchers --- A more radical version would also allow grabbing the runners, and moving them left and right, which would establish a hierarchy from left to right on the page/runner tabs. The left most tab/button would be the default runner to be shown when activating Homerun. This would also allow poeple to have multiple launcher widgets that have multiple purposes. ---Example: A separate launcher at the top right that prefers Appmenu Runner plugin. (or even only loads that plug-in) Part 3 - Interacting with Excessive Added/Subtracted Runner --- (click-drag)Scroll will move the whole list of runners left and right, so that excess runners that run off the side can be accessed. (remember long-holding will grab the runner for reordering.) --- Excess runners will have to run off the side somehow. They could roll and disappear on the right like the ridges of a volume dial. They could stack on the right similar to unity's icons. They could use a right-side-only cover flow effect. They could simply run off the side with no effect or just a slight fade. --- Whatever style might be used, it would have to support scrolling towards the faded area if a "grabbed runner" is hovered on the side of the runner list. (Bonus Idea) Recycling Bin Icon to Drag Content --- This system would allow people to drag different types of content to the launcher's trash icon for different effects. It could remove an added runner from view, it could prompt for uninstallation of a program, it could delete a folder, or it could remove an icon from the favorites, etc --- (not the most important idea, just showing how this Grab and Scroll system could allow for different types of interaction) |

And me. At first I simply thought it was a neat project I would test out but this thing is amazing! The only thing I would like added is the ability to change the icon. (I prefer the standard KDE icon) Otherwise I think you guys are doing brilliant work and I hope you continue. |

Wish: Switch tabs (home, applications, documents, power) on hover

A basic review can be found here:
http://netrunner-mag.com/?p=1916 (Note that this version is also a bit outdated, current version has a first configuration mode, so the PPA always gets updated to the latest commits). |

For your information: Github bug tracker has been closed. All opened issues have been imported to https://bugs.kde.org, in the homerun product.

just tested out the tab icon selection. great work! I like that most icons you would want for most categories are already in the directory it points to. sweet!
once you can add things inside of the tabs, it's curtains for other launchers see!? |

When I start write an application name, Homerun start search in the current tab.
I am forced to use mouse to change current tab e restart the search. This is a slow UX (IMHO), or there is an alternative way to do this. Why not it's impossible to change plasmoide icon? |

Nice one! But also RAM hog. Not terrible since it can also replace krunner.
But I have a quetion: how do I start file manager from a folder? |
