when I run vim in Konsole it does not fill the full size of the window, rather only part (see img). When I resize the Konsole window it fills the full window and the same when I switch Konsole tab. When I have vim opened from Midnight Commander upon exiting it also changes MC graphics surface to only portion of the window.
When opening MC normally it's ok. Seems that vim messes the graphics up. I have Kubuntu 12.04 Here is output of
ii vim 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - enhanced vi editor ii vim-common 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - Common files ii vim-gnome 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - enhanced vi editor - with GNOME2 GUI ii vim-gui-common 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - Common GUI files ii vim-runtime 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - Runtime files ii vim-tiny 2:7.3.429-2ubuntu2.1 Vi IMproved - enhanced vi editor - compact version

Is only Vim affected by this, or is Midnight Commander also affected? (Prior to any usage of Vim that is)

Nope. When opening MC its ok. When starting vim from MC then MC acts strangely . Except changing the screen size also for example Ctrl + o - showing console without closing MC app - produces screen mess with combination of graphics of terminal promp and blue parts of MC (which should not be seen at all after ctrl + o ).

If you open Vim by itself, does it behave incorrectly? (Trying to determine if it is a Vim <-> MC <-> Konsole interaction issue, or just a pure Vim <-> Konsole interaction issue)

Sorry if my initial post was not clear.
it is Konsole <-> Vim issue. That MC issue was meant as an additionaly information. The cause is definitely vim. Solution found: It was columns & lines setting in .vimrc I forgot about. I removed it and now its fullscreen and after closing when run from MC things are ok. Thanks for effort.
