I am used to using emacs type commands in terminals and now I discovered a funny behaviour in "konsole" that I cannot correct.
I am using ctrl-k to cut the rest of the line from the cursor and in emacs this also copies the material that was cut and so the next ctrl-y pastes it to the cursor. Not in konsole currently. It does work in gnome-terminal as it should, but not in konsole. I suspect this might be a KDE issue, because when I test it in gnome-terminal it works, but the content does not show up in the KDE clipboard. This is probably OK, but I would like to have the same behaviour in konsole. In case it makes any difference, I am using Linux Mint 16 and KDE 4.11. Could someone help? Thanks. |

Can you verify that this is Emacs inbuilt functionality, rather than functionality provided by GNOME Terminal?
The equivalent native shortcuts for copy and paste in Konsole are Ctrl + Shift + C and Ctrl + Shift + V. They are set like this to avoid conflicts with terminal applications.

Thanks for the answer. Ctrl + Shift + C and Ctrl + Shift + V are not equivalent to what I am describing. Ctrl + K kills the remainder of the line and in principle copies the killed content to the clipboard. Ctrl + Shift + C copies the *selection* to the clipboard, but does not kill it and most importantly requires a selection. I would like to copy a line (or part of it) without having to select it. I don't mind using a different key combination and Ctrl + Shift + V works fine, so forget about my asking about Ctrl + Y. My problem is that Ctrl + K while kills the rest of the line, it really does kill it in the sense that it vanishes and does not get copied.
In other words, my question is: Is there a key combination to use in Konsole that copies the current line or its remainder to the clipboard without having to select anything (with the mouse or any other way). For instance this makes a difference in remote sessions when one does not necessarily have the full functionality of a mouse. Thanks! |

I'm afraid that Konsole doesn't appear to support such functionality - at least as far as Configure Shortcuts provides.
There doesn't seem to be any functionality actually to support erasing the current line of text.
