I was trying to find out if a visual bell can be used so that konsole can be used without distraction. With this, activity can still be monitored. I don't know how this will fit inside plasma but konsole is used by many people outside of plasma as well. For me, a visual bell makes more sense in awesomewm.
This is what I could find on the internet: https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... sible-bell, but I don't want to flash the screen for notifications. Is there a way to achieve a visual bell? |

Just to be clear, by "visual bell" you want the konsole output view to flash briefly, or somehow give a visual notice? (as opposed to showing a desktop notification like it currently does for non-visible sessions or flashing the whole monitor like I assume the stackoverflow answer suggests)? Thus, the intent is to notify you in the moment that the bell occors, so long as you actually have (at least some of) the konsole session visible, but not leave any persistent notices that there was a bell you missed if you weren't present or the session wasn't visible.
As of Kde 4 (and I don't think it's changed in KDE 5, I don't see any options in Konsole to do this. If you aren't opposed to using other terminal emulators, you might check out Enlightenment's Terminology, which has a really nice take on the visual bell (a spinning alarm light flashes in the bottom-right corner, which can be customized by the current theme).

I'm not sure either what is exactly meant here, but I think this should be configurable in Settings->Configure Notifications.

@airdik I was afraid of that since I couldn't find anything on the internet regarding this. I was using st before but konsole has the best unicode support so I will live with the current system.
@wolfi323 As I mentioned in the original post there is no way to do a visual bell. I might implement a script specific to awesomewm and then use it whenever a bell occurs (An option to use any script for a bell is available in the configuration). |

Found what I wanted in the 'Configure Notifications'. The option is called 'Mark taskbar entry' which set the urgent WM hint.
