Strange cursor behavior in konsole

Sun Aug 11, 2019 2:18 pm
I am having a problem in Konsole with the cursor. As I type, the background color appears between the cursor and my text, and it widens with each keystroke. If I move the cursor back, the background color moves with, covering up text.
This is under Clear Linux btw, so it might be specific to their build or my setup. I think the problem may have started when I was messing around with the color scheme settings, but I can't seem to get it back to normal.

Turns out I had changed the font setting the the profile, and it seems this happens misalignment thing happens with some fonts and not others.

Had the exact same issue. Switching to the default 'Hack' font fixed it for me. Thanks for posting your solution!

Right. I hadn't paid enough attention to this the first time I saw this. Using proportional (non-fixed-width) fonts in any sort of terminal emulator is going to give wonky results (unless the particular terminal app has explicit support for it, usually including rich text and other graphics support as well).
I'm curious how you selected such a font as Konsole's Font settings filters the available fonts to only fixed-width fonts. If this was the default settings under Clear Linux, you might file a case with them to pick an actual fixed-width font as the default.
