Hi all,
on this forum I am a newbie but I have used KDE since I was running Linux on my box. As the subject states I am missing the konsole beep since I have switched to KDE4. It works until I start X and with it KDE. After that no beep nowhere on the konsole. Nothing helps when I try enabling it in systemsettings. Apart from the fact that the apply button is greyed out I cannot even test the beep when I highlight the option out of the drop down menu. But the start wav works when KDE loads. So I am out of options with systemsettings. So I try the good old hand editing of config files. Found a config file in ~/.kde4/share/config/konsole.notifyrc. It looks like this:
I need to know how I can edit one of these entries to get my beep back, which KDE emulates via my sound device ( creative x-fi - onboard sound disabled ) My kernel has the pc speaker built in in section input device -> miscellanous devices. My Linux is Gentoo. On a sidenote I´d like to pont out that the beep works fine on Windows7 Pro 64bit ( windows shell ) which I have running on my second hdd. Which means it should work on my main OS, Gentoo Linux, just as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated ![]() Transsib

O.k., please forget about all the nonsense above;
I´ve found the solution and it´s not a big deal. In fact it compares to the most ridiculous matter imaginable. Only thing is I am not sure how much this embarasses myself, actually. After I was done pilfering through config files and after creating a new, untainted user to test I returned to systemsettings and searched for the sound file that was listed for the konsole bell in there: Code: /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/bell.ogg Mind the ending .ogg But it does not exist. Instead a bell.oga sits there. ![]() Now if KDE looks for a bell.ogg but cannot find it because its name is bell.oga I can run around circles to no avail if I wanted to enable the konsole bell ! That´s it. |

This change can also be made through Konsole > Configure Notifications. Select "Bell in Visible Session" and ensure "Play a sound" is ticked and a file is configured there.
