Hi, suddenly my kalarm went crazy and now when I add an alarm it
starts consuming CPU 100% and it doesn't stop. I have to delete the alarm or kill kalarm. I restart kalarm and add any alarm and the kalarm consumes 100% CPU. If I use kalarm as another user there is no problem. So it seems that it is a config or cache problem, but I can't find where the problem is. I tried several things * Delete my /var/tmp/kdecache-<user> * Delete all kalarm config files in ~/.kde: share/config/akonadi_kalarm_resource_* share/config/kalarmrc share/apps/kalarm/* * Delete all alarms and the problem persists. Can you suggest me something else to try? As a last resource I would try to delete my whole ~/.kde (or rename it temporarily), but I should then reconfigure all my KDE. SYSTEM: KDE 4.10.4-1 on Fedora 19, kernel 3.9.5-301, processor i5-2450M. TIA, Mario |

@google01103: Hi, I don't have those files kalarmdrc, kalarmui.rc !!
I tried to rebuild the cache with kbuildsycoca4 but it doesn't fix the problem. Thanks for your help! |

the kalarmui.rc is in apps not config so you had already deleted it the kalarmdrc might be cruft from an older release as it's dated 2009 the kdecache-<user> should be cleaned with KDE not running |

I don't quite understand you. Neither kalarmui.rc, kalarmdrc, exist. I looked at a newly created user, and after calling `kalarm' the files aren't there for that user neither. |

Something else you could try would be to delete the KAlarm calendars from Akonadi. Run akonadiconsole (which you may have to install), and in the first tab, there should be at least three KAlarm calendars listed. Remove these and see whether that helps.

I has mentioned before, I tried already to delete the whole directory ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/, which includes these calendars ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/calendar.ics ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/template.ics ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/expired.ics ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/displaying.ics It doesn't worked. I launched akonadiconsole and in the first tab ("Agents") I see three entries: "Active Alarms", "Archived Alarms", and "Alarm Templates". Do you mean to delete those? (Screen capture http://picpaste.com/akonadi.png) . |

Well, I tried to delete the kalarm entries in "Akonadi Console" and the problem persists. More ideas? |

You say you tried to delete those entries - did you succeed? On the assumption that you did succeed, KAlarm should then have shown no alarms, and using View -> Calendars, should show no calendars either until you restart it. Did you restart KAlarm after that - does it still use 100% CPU even after restarting it?

I succeded in deleting those entries. The sequence is as follows . I start with kalarm not running. . Launch Akonadi Console . Remove the 3 calendar entries . Akonadi Console doesn't show any calendars . Now launch kalarm . Kalarm doesn't allow me to create entries, because I need to have a calendar. . Back to Akonadi Console, I create a new calendar "My Calendar" . In Kalarm, it lets me add an entry. . The CPU goes to 100%, laptop starts heating . I delete the alarm . CPU goes to normal values Thank again!! |

what type of alarm?

The simplest on: 23:00hs, text "dshdgshgds", no recurrence. I read somewhere that alarms with recurrence can cause problems, so the first thing I tried was to delete all recurrent alarms, but that dind't work. So, as a summary: I have no alarms now, and when I set one alarm (the simplest possible) CPU goes to 100%. |

Wait, it seems that now it's running OK, i.e. NOT consuming 100%
CPU. I don't know what has changed. I will mark the problem as solved, but I don't understand what happened. Thanks to all who helped! |

Just to be sure, did you verify that it the kalarm process which was consuming 100% CPU, and not some other process?

Confirmed that it was kalarm. When the problem is present I launch `top' and I see kalarm consuming 100% CPU. As I told before, the problem seems fixed now. I had some trouble in recovering the system, since I had all my calendars deleted. But it seems that now I have kalarm fully functional. I'm a big fan of kalarm, though I do a rather basic usage of it. |
