My Kalarm version:
Version 2.11.2-5ak KDE Frameworks 5.15.0 Qt 5.4.2, kompiliert gegen 5.4.2) Das xcbFenstersystem My System: ubuntu 15.10, 64 Bit Hello, I must apologize should this not be the right place to post my question. I am absolutely new to Linux and Kalarm is just what I need. Kalarm starts at Login which is fine. Only, each time I am disturbed by the following message: “Time zones are not accessible: KAlarm will use the UTC time zone. (The KDE time zone service is not available: check that ktimezoned is installed.)” I have activated the option: “Don't show this message again” but it still continues showing up every time. I don't mind if Kalarm uses the UTC time zone. Nevertheless I would be very grateful if you could let me know how I can get rid of the warning message once and for all. Thank you very much |

have you set timezone ? systemsettings -> regional settings -> date & time -> time zone -> select
also is timezone checked in systemsettings -> startup & shutdown -> background services -> startup services |

Hello and thank you for your answer. In my (Ubuntu) system settings→ time & date, I can only choose my location to determine the time zone. In my case Berlin is selected and that is correct.
Startup & shutdown is not available in my system settings however, if I run the 'Startup Applications' manager (I have made hidden applications visible in the manager) I can see that no such service as timezone is available. When I check the running processes form the terminal with ps -ef the only „time“ process running is „timesyncd“. I assume that timesyncd is a service that just synchronizes my clock with some time server in the Internet. Therefore I would say that timezone is not set in my System. |

there's a thread with what appears to be a similar issue https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-linu ... 11325.html but there there's a mix of Kalarm5 and Plasma 4 if I read it right. I would wonder if you have the wrong version of Kalarm (KDE4) but if you used the proper ppa's then others would see the same issue. Can you try reinstalling Kalarm and the kdepim packages.
I've moved this to the Kalarm sub-forum hoping that the dev will see it and respond |

Thank you for moving my post to the Kalarm sub-forum. My Kalarm version is: Version 2.11.2-5ak, KDE Frameworks 5.15.0, Qt 5.4.2, kompiliert gegen 5.4.2), Das xcbFenstersystem.
It looks to me as if it were a KDE5 version. My lack of knowledge (only for the moment hopefully) doesn't allow me to know whether I used the proper ppa's or not. I installed Kalarm using Ubuntu's Software-Center. Software there comes from Canonical and from the Ubuntu-Community. The only source for other software is Canonical-Partner. There is no ppa source in the list. For a reinstall I should probably use another source other than the one on Ubuntu's Software-Center. I tried downloading a stable version from http://www.astrojar.org.uk/kalarm/download.html but unfortunately not a single link is working. I tried also here: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Utilitie ... 2440.shtml Same problem „Not Found“. How could I find the proper ppa's for Kalarm? Thank you for the link to the thread on this issue. According to it, I would probably have to wait until ktimezoned is released on its own. As far as I know, I don't have any Plasma workspace installed on my System. Further inquiry (Google), led me to this page: https://phabricator.kde.org/D1375?vs=on ... t#24fc7ce6 It seems as if there is a fix for the condition that generates the warning in the first place. That would be a solution for me too. Unfortunately I don't quite understand (yet) how to apply the fix. It looks to me as if I would have to change 3 lines of the source-code in order to make a fixed version of Kalarm out of it. Probably I am wrong and simply was not able to understand the point. Any help will be much welcomed. |

what confuses me is that Google'ing doesn't show others with this issue, maybe you're missing a package but I've no idea what it could be - sorry

The bug fix you found via Phabricator doesn't affect the problem you're seeing - it will only be needed once the basic time zone problem is resolved. It isn't obvious why you're seeing this error. To ensure that it is investigated, can you please file a bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/, containing all the information which you gave in your first two posts on this forum, and also mentioning that you haven't installed Plasma workspace.

OK, I filed a bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/ . I hope that it will be of some help. Maybe I am not the only one seeing this issue. I found pretty much the same bug description right here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1512107 It seems to be an issue related to the Ubuntu release 15.10. Perhaps all I have to do is just wait a while, install the 16.04 release and Kalarm will work perfectly.

My above mentioned bug report did not survive long. For some unknown reason it disappeared only after a couple of days from the bug list concerning Kalarm at the KDE Bugtracking System. I guess I must have been punished for doing something either seriously improper or undesirable. Even my account data was erased, making a login impossible. Since I did not receive any notification whatsoever I’ll probably never find out what went wrong. Very disappointing indeed.
Anyway, to whom it may concern: I was able to solve my Timezone problem. I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04, reinstalled Kalarm and then installed the Plasma Workspace for KF5. The decisive step was to install the Plasma Workspace. As far as I can tell it had not been available until now. So google01103 was right. Thank you very much for your help. And thank you also very much djarvie for supporting a Linux-beginner in his first steps. |

You can see the bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361936. It has been marked as requiring a downstream fix by the Ubuntu and Debian packagers (see the last comment on the bug report for full details). You should have received an automatic email when the bug report was updated.
It's very strange if your bugs.kde.org account has disappeared. I'm sure that this must be accidental - nobody would be "punished" without reason, and without considerable effort to resolve the supposed problem first (see the KDE code of conduct on the KDE website). If you can't manage to make your login work, contact the KDE sysadmin team about it.
