I did restart telepathy but did not log out. Also I keep seeing that skype has to run alongside pigeon(granted this is telepathy but just sayin). Does that apply here and if so are we talking about running regular skype under wine? I havent seen a linux skype client.

You'll need to restart all the Telepathy components, including mission-control. Probably easier to log out.
You do need Skype running; the protocol isn't open but the client provides an API, which is what this uses. sudo apt-get install skype |

I will try logging out but apt-get doesn't find a package, and searching skype on the ubuntu packages site doesn't return any relevant results either. EDIT: Found it: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype If I run skype in the background, does it have to be logged in? I am not logged in but no longer got the fields error in telepathy. Even if I sign in to Skype using Skype, it still says connecting in a telepathy. Oh and I did a full on restart before trying all this.

You need to make sure the partner repository is enabled.

You'll get a popup from Skype asking if Telepathy should be allowed to connect to the API; you need to accept this.
Something like the following steps should get it to work: Start Skype. Log in. Open Telepathy. Add Skype. Set Telepathy status to Available. Accept API request on Skype. |

In fact, you need to restart/reload dbus as well as Telepathy, so it's easier to just log out and log back in.

thanks for the help guys. In fact Skype does not have to be logged in when setting up your log in info in Telepathy. I opened Skype, logged in, then set my status to on line in Telepathy and it asked of Haze should get permission. Had to click yes a few times, but it worked.

when I do this locate nothing is found despite glib2 package being installed. Any idea what I might be missing? |

I eventually found glibconfig.h and the next issue as dbus-arch-deps.h or similar that I had to copy from an odd location to be included.
It then works! Note that copying Debian packages and install does not help.. (thought it might as devs apparently on Debian) but this way did! so installing svn version did the trick to me - this is clearly a packaging issue for Kubuntu |

So trying to set up skype again as I have reinstalled since this thread. All the libpurple packages are installed. Trying to compile skype4pidgin but having errors.
I also tried it like this:
What am I missing?

Can you please include the full compiler output for "make all"? It appears the actual error is not included in that output - they are just warnings (which can be ignored usually).

Your right, so I did make install(since that was the full output), and it all matched up with what I posted earlier in the thread. However when I send an IM to some one on Skype, they are saying they don't get the message. When I open the IM in skype, the messages sent in skype look fine but the messages sent using skype4pidgin and libpurple show up in skype with yellow triangles with black exclamation marks.

Hmm. Does Skype give any information as to what the warning means when you hover over the icon?

It says "this message is not delivered yet." The odd thing is it only happens on this one contact. My other contacts work fine. I don't have but a handfull of contacts and the only difference I can think of between this contact, and the others, the other were Skype users before the MSN Messenger shutdown. I am running the latest skype build straight from the partner repo and just checked out the latest skype4pidgin plugin source and all the telepathy plugins. Just in case it helps:
