Hey,
currently we do not provide any Kontact integration, so there's no way to start calls from Kontact. As for greyed out audio/video call buttons - you need support on both sides (you and the target contact must be both able to do audio/video calls). In terms of KTp, that means having installed ktp-call-ui (and ktp-approver, which you should have already). After you install these, be sure to log out and back in (it's because of a fault in the packaging). If this does not solve your problem, please state the distro you are running and what ktp packages versions you have installed. Thanks

Did I misinterpret this....based on this I was under the impression that it would work...
https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/106061/ I have ktp-call-ui installed, I don't see a package called ktp-approver in my repo I'm running Linux Mint 14, I have ktp-call-ui, ktp-text-ui, and the kde-telepahy-meta package installed |

Ok...yea I see kde-telepathy-approver is installed...actually all the kde-telepathy packages are installed except the ones that end in dbg...I don't think I need those...

Ok, I need to confess that this review/feature slipped past me without noticing, sorry about that. Can you run ktp-dialout-ui from console and post the output? Thanks.

Great. Now which account are you trying this with? Do you have any sip account configured?

I also have the greyed out audio and video call issue. I'm using KDE 4.10 Beta 3 (4.9.98)
This used to work before, however it looks like kde-telepathy-call-ui was removed during the recent upgrade. I rebooted and it now works apt-cache show kde-telepathy-call-ui says: " This package provides the KDE Telepathy component that enables doing audio/video calls on XMPP/Jingle and SIP. This package is not meant to be used standalone. It is recommended to install the kde-telepathy metapackage instead." To my eyes, apt-cache depends kde-telepathy-call-ui, suggests it isn't installed with kde-telephony meta-package, at least not by kde-telephone-minimal. Maybe it should be installed by default? |

Sorry for the late answer (again, I was travelling a lot). The dialout UI should work even with XMPP accounts, you just have to type the exact XID in there. Once it matches any contact from your list which is capable of audio/video calls, it will enable those buttons. Can you start normal audio/video calls from contact list? If not, either you or the other side is missing some parts; in your case that would be ktp-call-ui I think, which advertises you are capable of doing calls when you are online.
