In kde telepathy's 0.5 release announcement there was the following statement:

I'm eager to get this latex stuff! Is there any news to this?

bunch of our plugins is waiting to be merged, there are still some bugs/quirks that we need solved first. Unfortunately our developer/maintainer for these is super busy with other stuff for some time now and we have noone to take care of those, but we'll try to get at least few new plugins into 0.6

However it wasn't completely ready and working in time for 0.6.
It should be in 0.7

so you know, this just got merged into master.

If you run the super latest version of KTp (i.e current dev code, not 0.6.0 ) you will have this feature.
