maximum upload rate

Wed Oct 05, 2005 5:22 pm
I don't know if it's a general or a personal problem but when i limit the upload rate, even if ktorrent pretend to limit the rate, this doesn't really happen (I checked with gkrellm)... Is this a bug or did I do something wrong?

We only count the uploaded data for the upload speed. There are other messages part of the bittorrent protocol which also get sent, which are causing the higher speeds then KT calculates.

i will consider this, even if i doubt that it is my real problem 'cause when i limit to 5KB/sec i get my bandwith saturated wich means that i'm uploading at ~30KB/sec... maybe i got something else wrong.
By the way this program has really great features, it really rulez...

It constantly stays high, the strange thing is that this seems independent from the upload limit I set. With a 24 KB/sec limit KTorrent shows a constant 24 KB/sec upload whilst actually pushing ~30 KB/sec, with 10 KB/sec it's the same, KTorrent shows 10 KB/sec but the real rate is still 30 KB/sec. BTW I have tried both KTorrent 1.0 and 1.1RC1 and both share the same problem, this is under Gentoo x86 with a 2.6.12 kernel. I have checked with netstat too just to be sure that gkrellm wasn't fooling me and it confirmed that when KTorrent is running my upload speed is fixed at 30 KB/sec. Oh, I am also behind a firewall but I have forwarded the port 6881 (both UDP and TCP) and port 4444 (UDP only).

I too have this problem. It seemed to work fine in v1.1, but after installing from SVN today, the maximum upload rate seems to have no effect at all.

It stays high all of the time, no matter what values I put in...

I'll make a bug out of it, when I have more time I will check it out.

I noticed the high upload speeds when the torrents was finished downloading, and continued to seed. I will try to check how download speed is affected.

Protocol overhead should be pretty limited when seeding.

It should be higher during the download (you send out lots of requests, whenever you have downloaded a chunk, you need to tell all peers that you downloaded that chunk)
