UPnP freezes options window

Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:33 pm
Hello.
I love ktorrent very much. I'm trying to switch completely to Linux, and one of the things keeping me with windows was the lack of a decent torrent client in Linux.
This is by far the best i have seen. I only have 2 problems with it:
First, it uses much memory (a leak it seams). i Watch ksysguard and memory usage keeps going up slowly. In 5 or 6 hours, my 1GB ram is filled and system becomes very slow, and only way to restore it is to "killall ktorrent".
Second, when i click configure ktorrent, a window pops open. In it i select plugins, and load UPnP. At this time that window freezes. I can see ktorrent's main window is doing ok, and the downloads and uploads are progressing fine. Is there a way for me to change some config file so that UPnP is loaded by default?

Thank you for your time, and keep up the good work.

* I use ktorrent svn (08.jan.2006) on SLAX 5.0.6 (KDE 3.4.1)

Put a cap on the number of peers you can connect to. We allready put in a cap on the number of bytes which will be downloaded simultanious.

That is an interesting problem I haven't seen before. Does the preference dialog redraws when you minimize it and then maximize it again ?

But you can do it manually, open
~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/plugins

and add a single line containing upnpplugin.

Is that the "max conections per download" thing? I usualy dont have more than 20 or 30 seeders/peers on my torrents anyway... but i'll try it and keep you posted.

Nope. I click cancel or close, minimize, maximize... nothing works. It's frozen solid. Only way is to kill ktorrent completely.

Thx. I did that and now the main ktorrent window freezes :(
I see the downloads and uploads working, but like it happens in the preference dialog, i cant even close the window.
It seems that it only freezes when many plugins are loaded... i close all but UPnP and it works just fine! As soon as i open 3 or more plugins, it freezes.

Looks like an infinite loop. I haven't encountered one when we are loading plugins, and I usually run with 5 or more plugins loaded.
