Tracker doesn't recognize KTorrent

Mon Jan 30, 2006 12:36 pm
I noticed it yesterday: with the SVN version (I donwloaded it a week ago) the tracker I use doesn't recognize KTorrent anymore.

It's strange for it used to recognize KT successfully since 1.2rc1 (as 'ktorrent')...

Tip: you should add the version to the peer string (something as 'kTorrent 1.2rc2' or simply 'kTorrent 1.2 (beta)').

We do have PeerID string for each version. For SVN version we have -KT12DV-xxxxxx format. RCs have -KT12RC1-xxxxxx format.

Maybe the tracker need to update its identify procedure.

Two of my computers were connected via KT the other day and they showed up as 'KTorrent 1.2.D.V', so it seems to be working (SVN version of Friday last week).

Maybe the tracker where you're on started to work with a whitelist for user-agents.

You might wanna ask them first because more and more trackers are blocking clients they don't like (which is a good thing IMO).

If they're doing this, ktorrent might just still be on the waitinglist to be put on the whitelist. So tell them ktorrent is a proper client yada yada yada and so on... ;)

I didn't make myself clear... I'm able to work with KT and this tracker but it doesn't recognize KT's PeerID. As I thought it was a problem about a different PeerID in the SVN version which doesn't seem to be recognized by the tracker.

I'll contact the tracker's devs and I'll ask them to put the SVN PeerID in the whitelist...

Ah alright, well then they just have to add ktorrent to the client indentify list. Nothing bad, standard procedure.

AFAIK ktorrent just send 'Ktorrent' with all version as an user-agent, so that might be a simple task for them.
