Hi I know you are busy but I have a little request that I hope you will consider

I would like to have the option to show a flag for the country where the peer is from and an option to short after country. (like there is in Azureus and µtorrent)

Seeing that it does not improve any functionality it could take a while before we find some time to do this, but I'm in favor.

BTW, what service is queried for determining country for specific IP? Maybe some bundled list file or something...

Author's Description for Azureus "Country Locator" plugin:
Adds a column identifying the peer country in the details view
This product includes GeoIP data created by MaxMind, available from http://maxmind.com/

I thought it was something like that, but check out their 'products' page:

Product Price*: $50/site license
with Updates: $12 per month

Is there something GPL'd? Are those AZ devs paying for this stuff anyway?

it's not even AZ main team, as it's a plug-in developed by someone called Erik Corry...
well, I fumbled around their site and it seems some hope is there:

EDIT: looked on Wikipedia for geolocation software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geolocation_software) they give some links at the bottom of the page and mention FREE databases from Maxmind, with APIs for several languages

I could remember using GeoIP API for PHP a long time ago and I'm pretty sure it was free. My first thought was that Maxmind went commercial with this software... I'll check it out, but I honestly can't say if I'll find a time to do this soon.

I have no idea about the actual code, but emule morph, which is also GPL, also has county flags in peerview. Could be interesting.

there is trivial solution--match tld part of the reverse lookup agains images list.

this is not good for figuring where website is but would work for peers since
(I guess) ISPs usually has the same tld as the country it is in.

at least worth a try.

ps: there is firefox extension which does exactly the same and has all the flags:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla ... 0.5-fx.xpi

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/m ... on=firefox

I think it is GPL so it matches ktorrent policy...

however, MaxMind's GeoIP Lite (GPL) could be better solution.

To bring this thread to life again : Country locator is implemented in current SVN. I used Maxmind GeoIP API which is GPLd and free flag images.

Feel free to test it :)

Sweeeeeeeeeet! :D
People are going to be surprised when they install 1.3, so much new and nice things.
*stoeptegel is proud being able to use SVN*

I noticed a bug though: listing on country doesn't list properly.
Image

Looks to me that the listing also takes the IP addresses into account in some way.(?)

Yeah, I just noticed that too. Funny thing is that the sorting is done by Qt comparing the strings so it *should* work... I'm gonna check it out.

I should definitely stop blaming Qt for my own stupid mistakes :D

It's fixed now.

I just noticed that IP listing has this issue as well.
