stalled peers

Sat May 06, 2006 7:16 pm
Hi,

Something is wrong with peers management, I think. I see a very good speed when I start torrent, then more and more peers become "snubbed" and speed is constantly decreasing. If I stop/start the torrent speed is good again for some time. This build is from yesterday SVN. I tried to change Peer::isSnubbed to return false, it did not help. Peers that would be snubbed did not send data to us. But they sent data when I restarted the torrent. I am trying to find where we send requests to peers :)

We send requests in PeerDownloader::download().

I noticed that behavior a couple of days ago and notified George. We're still trying to find out what's causing this.
After some tests I found that KT doesn't send requests once peer snubs us. It would be interesting to see if that's the case with you too.

I just wanted to add that I'd also noticed this behavior.

In addition, in SVN I've had the files pane in infowidget go completely blank a couple of times. That is it goes completely grey, no items are in it at all. The "Files" on the tab isn't greyed out so it does know a torrent is selected. I haven't been able to see what causes it yet.

I would post a real bug report but it's 3am and time to sleep.

Yes, it looks like my case also. I am not even sure that the peer snubs us, it may be we think it snubs us as we do not see pieces from the peer for some time, but it's possible that this is consequence of something else.

I have made a change, which should fix it, if my theory about what is causing it is correct.

Well, it looks like it's better than it was but not completely fixed. In 15 minutes total speed for 2 torrents dropped from 234Kb/s to 132Kb/s. Restarting torrents I have full speed back. Sympthoms are the same: less and less peers send us data.
