Feature Request: File renaming

Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:56 pm
I find that the biggest reason I stop seeding files is because I clean out my downloads directory, and rename things into a more consistent structure. Would it be possible for ktorrent to map files with new names into old torrents, and even better yet, provide a sort of automatic sorting and renaming?

A few customizable options in a dialog would be great, automatic sorting of common file types into different customizable directory structures would be nice, say archives like tar, bz, gzip into one regexp pattern, mp3, flac, ogg, into another pattern, and avi, mpeg and wmv into another pattern.

Thanks for all the great work so far!

I see what you mean and it's a good thinking. However, I'm not sure we could do this easily (George correct me if I'm wrong) since it would be very difficult to maintain MD5 hashes of the files with different names than listed in torrent. It's possible but costs much IMHO.

Hmm, I was under the impression that md5sum ignored filenames, and only inspected contents? Maybe you could just use symlinks in the torrents temp directory to keep track of the files as long as they are only renamed through kt?

I'm not sure and that why I asked to be corrected. Anyone knows for sure?

That's possible I think. Maybe we could have someone make a plugin or something.

Renaming definately does not affect the md5sum.
