Since a few updates (svn up) ago ktorrent has started ignoring the upload throughput limits I've set. It'll happily eat all 50+ KB/s I have, and choke my entire internet connection :(

Run svn up, I made a fix this morning in this area. (Allthough that was for not fully utilizing all bandwith allowed)

Heh, seems I Copied the wrong svn number. I have the latest svn, and its still eating up a lot more than it should be.

OK, how many torrents have you got running ? What is the limit ? And what speed is KT actually getting ?

OK, how many torrents have you got running ?

20 or so.

What is the limit ?

anywhere from 1KB/s up to 40KB/s

And what speed is KT actually getting ?

It does vary quite a bit, but it'll fluctuate between 0 and 50KB/s, though its usually over 20KB/s. (right now I have it set to 1 seed, 4 upload slots, and 1KB/s upload limit, though normally I have it set to more upload slots and between 10 and 20KB/s)

This only started a few days ago, so that should help in tracking down the change that caused this.

Can't reproduce it.

I have reverted the only change I can think of which could be it. Run svn up and see what that gives.

Ok, that did seem to help a little, but I still get spikes over 30KB/s even when set to 1KB/s. I could see spikes of 5KB/s or so, but not 30KB/s.

I got xvidcap installed, I can post a short video of what it looks like if you want.

I am going to be a party pooper here...
I don' t have the upload problem(not before and not after the fix), in fact, it works nicely with i think generally 5K overhead.(i use dapper drake, if it mathers)

@Tomasu
You could try ffmpeg

The fact is its happening to me, so the problem wont go away by saying its not happening to you.

You could try ffmpeg
I'd rather not install a version so old, with a 3rd party patch...

I know and i wasn't trying, i was just telling to we perhaps could locate the problem better.

AFAIK it doesn't need to install in the system, there's only ./configure and make before running it from that folder.
(there's a new program called screenkast too, looks interesting.)

This problem is strange, if there was something wrong with the limit we should be able to reproduce it.

Could this be that you are still having stuff lying around from older versions of KTorrent ? Uninstall KT fully and then look for ktorrent, libktorrent.so and ktinfowidgetplugin.la on your hard disk.

Unless your install script is broken, all files are getting installed properly each time. I can try a total reinstall. might be a while though, I've switched to azureus for the time being, so the stuff I'm downloading will actually finish in a decent amount of time.

Azureus may be a memory and cpu hog, but damn it if it isnt the best torrent client, it finds more peers/seeds/leechers, has way more dht clients, and downloads faster. Its even found peers for torrents I thought were dead, ktorrent hadn't once found a peer for them in the past week or so.

I'll try a fresh ktorrent soon-ish, clear out my settings, clear ktorrent's stale "temp" folder, and let you know.

Possible Workaround

Thu Jul 20, 2006 8:06 am
I had the same problem when I installed the rc1 so this isn't completely isolated. I may have found something that fixed it but I'm still trying to narrow down what it was that caused the fix.
