Saved peers, and Peer Exchange?

Wed Nov 08, 2006 2:44 am
I know you guys are pretty busy the way it is, but I'd like to see KTorrent once and for all be uTorrent-competitive.

Two important features towards this goal are peer exchange and the ability to save the current peers to a file (and restore them the next time the torrent starts).

What are the plans to implement these features? I would expect saved peers to be the easiest to implement...

Saving peers shouldn't be that much of a problem. I can add it to my TODO list, but can't guarantee it'll make it into 2.1 :?:

PEX surely won't get into 2.1, that I can tell you :)

I'll do the peer saving, shouldn't be much trouble to add.

PEX will have to wait until after 2.1.

Hmm, it doesn't seem like peer saving actually works... I'm testing a particular torrent where I got 5000 peers, then I stopped the torrent, exited KTorrent, set iptables to reject the tracker's IP, then I started up KTorrent again... and it's at 0 peers and slowly gettin 'em thru DHT.

It seems to work here, what kind of logging output do you get when you do this ?

It seems like it was my fault for jumping to conclusions. I turned off DHT and it was still finding peers fine. So, it works just doesn't update the total # peers in swarm indication, which makes sense :)

never mind :)
