disabling dns resolution

Mon Jan 15, 2007 3:09 pm
It would be useful if ktorrent had a feature similar to that of utorrent to disable resolving hostnames altogether.
One reason to do so is to maintain anonimity when using networks such as tor. A severe breach of anonimity known as 'dns leak' might put the privacy of such users in question.

Unless of course I am in the wrong and ktorrent doesn't resolve any ip names?

I think he meant peer hostnames not tracker. I remember uTorrent doing that in PeerView.

@md: If you mean peer hostnames, you won't have to worry. KTorrent does not resolve them.

Right, I meant peer hostnames.
Do you know whether the geoip library needs to resolve peer hostnames in order to find out the country of a given peer?
Unless I'm mistaken it's used for the flags in ktorrent.

Geoip uses a database to look it up, the database is a local file, so no networking involved.
