Two user interface issues

Wed Jan 24, 2007 1:26 am
I'm using Ktorrent 2.1rc1 from Gentoo's portage, and I have two issues with the user interface that I noticed:
    1) The "Folder to store temporary files" I have a ramdisk mounted on /tmp and thought "Temporary? That should be fine to put into a ramdisk to save some disk access". So, I set Ktorrent's temporary folder to be /tmp/ktorrent. Then I shut down Ktorrent and turned off the computer normally. When I restarted Ktorrent all the torrents were gone. I assume that I have a different definition of temporary than was intended. I think a different wording would avoid confusion in the future.

    2) My web browser is set to open .torrents with Ktorrent. I opened several without Ktorrent started. When Ktorrent finished starting I had several windows with the title "Select Folder to Save To" and no other indication (that I could see) of which window was for which torrent so I was unable to set the proper location to store the data from the torrents. There should be some easy way to distinguish which window was for which torrent.

The files in the temporary dir, is used to keep track which torrents are loaded, and what the status of those torents are. Putting the directory on a RAM disk is not a good idea.

Maybe we can put the name of the torrent in the window caption. Currently we are in string freeze, so normally there should be no GUI modifications to allow translators to translate against a stable target, but maybe we can avoid modifying any strings in the GUI.

/bump

I've had the same trouble with the second issue of not knowing what torrent I'm trying to save to what file.

Because I use the scan folder plugin, and because the things I'm downloading have lots of individual torrents associated with them, I usually just save all the .torrent files to the scan folder, and then when I'm done I start selecting the folders where the finished torrent will be stored.

If I could tell what torrent I'm selecting a final folder for, I could just copy and paste a bunch of .torrent files in there without having to try to keep track of which ones I did first, last, etc...

We now show the URL of the torrent in the caption of the window, this will not make it into 2.1.
