I just recently switched to the latest SVN snapshot (March 4, 2007) and am getting used to the new GUI (I was using an older SVN snapshot from around the release of 2.1.2). I'm not sure whether it's better or not - particularly the changes to the infowidget - but it's growing on me I think.
In any case, there is one thing that bothers me with regards to how the infowidget selects which torrent's data is shown. The tabs with downloads, uploads, or whatever group you create are really nice, but when you select a different tab, it does not affect the infowidget. So, I could select torrent A in Group 1 and see it in the infowidget, but when I click on the tab for Group 2, I still see the information for torrent A in the infowidget. What I would have expected - and would prefer - is that whichever torrent was last selected in Group 2 (and is thus highlighted) would now be showing in the infowidget. I find it disconcerting when the infowidget is displaying information on a torrent that isn't even in the window where the torrents are displayed. Now, the one problem I see with implementing it the way I would have like it (i.e. the currently selected torrent in whatever group is currently showing in the torrent window has its info shown in the infowidget) is the case where no torrent has ever been selected for the current tab. In that case, no torrent is highlighted and it makes no sense to display the information for any of the torrents currently in the window. My suggested solution is to make the infowidget blank. However, I'm not sure that it's possible to have a blank infowidget at the moment. Assuming that there is no torrent highlighted among the currently displayed torrents and having a blank infowidget makes no sense, then it would probably be best to have the first torrent in the list have its informaiton displayed in the infowidget. In any case, the current behavior of the infowidget - i.e. displaying the most recently selected torrent regardless of whether it's currently displayed in the torrents window - is rather disconcerting to me and makes the torrents window and the infowidget seem rather disconnected. Hopefully my explanation above gives makes it reasonably clear what I'm looking for. I don't know what the main developers want it to do, but as it stands, I find it to be rather irritating. Just the same, ktorrent is a great program and is the best bittorrent client that I've ever used. And it just keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work! |

Well, you have my vote on making it so that the infowidget only shows info on the torrent that is currently selected/highlighted in the current tab. And like I said, if having a "blank" infowidget makes no sense, then it would probaby be best to show information on the first torrent in the tab. Of course that leaves the case where there aren't _any_ torrents in the tab, so maybe we need to be able to have a blank infowidget.
In any case, you would know better what is reasonable and possible than I. As much fun as it would be to go digging around in the ktorrent code and try and improve it, I'm too busy with school and work to even contemplate having the time to do that sort of thing. However you manage to have time for it, thanks! |
