Excessive Unnecessary data recieved

Sat Mar 24, 2007 12:39 pm
Hi everyone..

New here and new to Ktorrent.

First off, system configuration:

O/S: Fedora Core 6, Kernel 2.6.20-1.2925.fc6, PIII 600Mhz 256Mb Ram, High speed connection, Ktorrent 2.1.2 (Using KDE 3.5.6-0.3.fc6)

I had major problems with unnecessary data for a torrent I downloaded today. The torrent was 688 Mb (all downloaded) and I uploaded 864 Mb.(upload/download Mbs were confirmed with the tracker) The download was taking a really long time even though it was downloading at 80 Kbps. (over 24 hours) While it was downloading, I did notice that a BitComet client was sending me a lot of data at over 40 kbps.

I checked the log files for Ktorrent in my home directory and at the end of the log file, it said that I had received over 4 GIGABYTES of unnecessary data. This is extremely excessive.

How can this be fixed so that I don't have to go through this again. Is this some sort of bug?

Thanks in advance
Dave

This is not KTorrent's fault. There are companies that are hired just to send junk data in swarms.

EDIT: If you don't like it, use the IP Filter plugin to block the IP's of those companies.

OK.. and how am I supposed to know the IPs of the companies? There is nothing in the logs saying where the pieces are coming from, just that an unnecessary piece was received and the total size of the unnecessary pieces received. :x

Download a list from BlueTack or similar, and import it under "IP Blocking Filter" in "Configure KTorrent". It's a plugin, so you may have to activate it first.
