Illegal token

Tue May 01, 2007 1:31 pm
Hi all,

I'm "new" to KTorrent and I have to admit that although I've been a bit dispointed by the performance (downloading part) the first time I gave a glance at it (roughly one year ago), I'm definitely awestruck by the job done from that time. Keep up the good job, a couple of hours with KTorrent (svn 2007-04-21) this morning conviced me to remove Azureus.

I won't give you much feed-back on the UI as I think my opinion in this area is not really valuable (and as, until now, I really think the gui is smooth and efficient). However, switching on the log viewer plugin (level = 'important' ), brought me a bunch of "Illegal taken" messages
Code: Select all
Error happened during parsing : Illegal token: X

The here-above 'X' character is supposed to be a rectangle that I can't reproduce here, the kind of symbol you usually have when the code doesn't correspond to any displayable character. My locale is en_US.UTF-8 and the torrent doesn't have any special symbol anywhere, so I suspect that at least one of the other clients is sending a non-conform (or not) message that KTorrent can't handle. On a 100 peers torrent I get this message every 5 to 10 seconds...

On a side note (but you also tagged it as 'important'...), I also have a "cannot find PeerManager" message every 30 seconds
Code: Select all
Cannot find PeerManager for hash : xxxxxxxxx

I don't really know why/how, but I hope this helps.

This is nothing to worry about, the illegal token is something which can happen when another client starts sending bad DHT packets.

The token is something you give out to other DHT clients so they can alter your DHT routing table for a limited period of time. That way any person sending random **** cannot mess up your DHT routing table.

The cannot find PeerManager, is also normal, it's just a client which is trying to connect to you for a torrent you are no longer sharing (or never shared at all)
