I have been having a slight hiccup with using ktorrent through the web-gui on a "headless server" computer. Basically what happens is that I download a torrent, pull the downloaded file from my computer running ktorrent to my desktop through SAMBA. Then if I delete the file off of the computer running ktorrent before removing the torrent through the web-gui the web-gui will display "error" under status and will not allow for the torrent to be removed. I have tried rebooting ktorrent, but the problem is that ktorrent pops up an error on startup that can only be seen on the screen of the computer running ktorrent about the missing data. The only way for me to fix this is to connect a keyboard and monitor to the computer running ktorrent and accept the errors so that ktorrent can finish starting.

I'm not really sure what can be done to rectify this problem. I have tried to make it a habit to remove the torrent via the web-gui before deleting the file, but sometimes I forget and this is when the problem comes up. It may be possible to put a switch in one of the settings allow for it to automatically select a preset choice when the errors pop up.

If my description of the problem is not very good please let me know and I'll try and reword it to better convey what I am saying.

Thank you for the help,
Conrad

That's the annoying thing with the webgui, you can't click dialog boxes. I'm not quite sure what we can do about this. By default select recreate, is an option. But we will have the same problem with all dialog boxes which require user input.

However you could try other options so you don't need the webgui (remote desktop or X11 forwarding over a SSH connection)

I understand that this is not something that can be easily fixed, maybe on the pop-up boxes have a check box that says "remember this selection" so that from that time on when that pop-up wants to come up it will automatically select that setting. It would require user-input the first time that it pops up, but after that the errors would slowly take care of themselves.

I would love to try and use some form of remote connection if I could figure out how to use it. I currently run Windows as my main desktop, so I haven't messed with X11 forwarding via SSH too much. As for remote desktop I really don't know how to do that either. If you have any links to a particularly good website to read up on that that would be great. I have also tried using ktshell, but I get something to the effect "no DCOP server found" and I haven't found a solution for that yet.

When I need to do stuff in windows, I usually install cygwin which comes with an X server (you will need to select the package though),

Then it is usually just a matter of running startx in a cygwin shell and doing ssh -X user@ktorent-box, then you should be able to start KT and it should display on your windows box.
