KTorrent causes loss of DSL connection

I've noticed this over the last couple versions. I can use Ktorrent for grabbing some torrents just fine, but if I grab a major TV show torrent for a show I missed, I lose my DSL connection. The DSL modem shows green lights, but I have no connection to the internet. I reset the DSL modem and I'm good, ifdown before and ifup after. Just doing ifdown and ifup has no affect on restoring the connection. If still downloading the torrent I'll lose the connection again. I can grab the same torrent with Azureus with no problems. This only happens on certain torrents when running Ktorrent. Any ideas.

Running openSUSE 10.2, Ktorrent 2.1.4, maximum connections per torrent 300, Global connection limit of 800. I have UDP tracker port of 50223 set. Should I block the port and see what happens? Could this be some type of attack on that port? Lord know they attack my SSHD day and night, :).

I would cut down on the number of connections per torrent, 60 is more then enough.

You could also try disabling DHT.

This is an issue with your router and handling a high number of connections in TIME_WAIT, FIN_WAIT, or CLOSE_WAIT. Unless you have the ability to change the default timeout (reaping periods) on these specific TCP states - there's nothing you can do but turn down the number of connections you use.

This is typically why people try to get routers with an open source interest in them - so that the typical lame limits can be removed/changed - not to mention all the other great things like command line in general.

That seems to have done the trick. I'll keep testing.

Much nicer to use Ktorrent that bloaty Azureus. I'm just not a fan of Java apps.

so if I could modify Time Wait etc, how would I set them? My router says 120s for Time Wait..
