I know this may be considered outside the scope of ktorrent, but I would find it very useful if it supported (resumable) downloading of files via FTP / HTTP.

The reason is, I'm trying to find a download manager for Linux that supports scheduling downloads at a specific time every night, and there seem to be none.

It would be really great if ktorrent supported this, maybe somebody already wrote a plugin for this? If so, sent me the URL for the plugin.

KT is a torrent client, not ftp/http.
