2.2beta1 released

Sat May 26, 2007 12:39 pm
This is the first release in the 2.2 series, there have been many improvements and bugfixes. It's a beta but it should be pretty stable.

As allways, packages can be found on your downloads page :

The beta works pretty good so far (tested for 24 hours now). The new GUI is well done and feels more intuitive, only I had to resize pretty much every element after installing (Tab-width etc.), because at first the window was bigger than my screen :) . Still, no malfunctions or instabilities so far over here.

I have the vague impression that the beta needs even less cpu-ressources than before, also changing the cpu-power in the settings-dialogue is very useful - I used to have the problem that KTorrent would take a lot of cpu when I had more than ~ 200 seeder / leecher, this can be controlled in a pretty flexible way now by letting KTorrent assume a slower cpu.

But hey, since KTorrent is getting more and more features with every new release, you must finally write a decent manual for it! Although I use KTorrent for about a year now, there are some functions I still don't quite understand, for example the whole VHT-thingy or how to create a trackerless torrent and let someone download files via that. Of course, I could dig through this forum to look for it, but well... this is not the way it should be, I guess. In case I could help you with that, let me know.

Beside all that, KTorrent keeps rockin'! Thank you!

I'm shoving together a VMWare Fusion test box on my shiny new macbook core 2 duo, so if all goes well we should get blessed with AMD64 packages soon :)

All the debs have been relocated to http://stuff.mit.edu/~jdong/temp-ubuntu/ktorrent/ for now

George/Ivan, if you can mirror the current stable/beta debs onto ktorrent servers, that'd be great. Currently this setup isn't permanent either; I'm bordering on overquota on my student account :D

OK, we will copy them to our website (we have no quotas)

EDIT: The 2.1.4 and 2.2beta1 directories are empty on http://stuff.mit.edu/~jdong/temp-ubuntu/ktorrent/
