Download behaviour

Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:35 pm
Hi,

Got a small idea that should improve the download-speed of a torrent.
Initially when the torrent starts and have no chunks downloaded it seems to get a very low priority within the swarm until it has its first chunk downloaded (does not matter if all in the swarm already got that specific chunk).

So my proposal is to have ktorrent get the chunk that has the highest availability in the swarm first, and only download that chunk from all available peers.

What do you think? Should be quite easy to implement.

Euhm we already have a warmup mode where we choose the most common chunks until we have downloaded 4 chunks, then we switch back to selecting the rarest.

That's strange, cause the behavior i'm seeing is that i get quite allot of downloads starting for more than 4 chunks... And i do also see that even if all the peers have the same chunk it dont just download that chunk but it gets a more wider spread.

Could you give me a hint where this code is located and i'll have a closer look and maybe see what i can do?
