I love using ktorrent, it's by far my favorite BT client and I would like to use it all the time. Unfortunatly, many private trackers, in their infinate wisdom, ban ktorrent! On bitsoup for example, only about 5 BT clients are allowed. I don't like doubling up on programs when I can avoid it. I know I could run utorrent in wine (i've done it before) and that would solve this problem, but I really prefer ktorrent.
To get to the point, I have thought of a solution: Is it possible to change the way ktorrent identifies itself? Like have it so that we can enter a string and that will be what is used to identify the client at the tracker eg. "Utorrent xxx" would be what bitsoup would think im running? Perhaps that could be implemented in a future release if it cant be done already? Thankyou for your time Tenma.

Lobby for the client. Make a thread in the appropiate place in their forums and link them to this:
http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1850 It explains why the client was banned in the first place and why it doesn't apply anymore. I already got it unbanned from 2 private trackers doing this. Others are a bit more "stubborn" (to be polite) though. If you're gonna change the peerID though, make sure you also change the user agent in httptracker.cpp since they can also see that one and they might think you're cheating and ban you ![]() |

Well I dont want to risk beeing banned from any private trackers, especially bitsoup as i just donated to get VIP status and dont want that to be for nothing lol. So i'm not going to mod my ktorrent and I dont want to **** them off by asking for it to be unbanned (i dont know what forum section would be appropriate anyway).
My solution for now is bittornado for that, ktorrent for everything else, I really dont want to run utorrent under wine at this point. Thanks for the replies. Tenma

I was using ktorrent as long as I have been with Smoking in The Rain, one of my favorite sites right now, but they no longer allow ktorrent.
I seeded all the time to get my ratio up and become VIP. I did send a pm to the owner and he said they were working on it but now they only allow a very limited number of clients and prefer uTorrent. Well, no problem I found someone to invite me to another private track and sure enough , it doesn't like ktorrent either. Ktorrent still works on Demonoid (slow), and Oink( great for music only) but I did have some trouble on The Dvdclub - was kicked off but they could never clearly tell me why, but it had to do with the stats from ktorrent. It seems like some private sites are updating their tracker software and the new software doesn't work well with ktorrent. Ktorrent is my favorite , just need to find a good private tracker that works with it and get invited. on edit, my current stats: Ratio: 5.910 UL: 381.65 GB DL: 64.57 Ratio: 3.039 U: 299.25 GB D: 98.47 |

I am interested in this, do you have more information on this?
Afaik every tracker should work well with KTorrent 2.0 and up. |

Regardless of the reason, it's absolutely taboo to falsely identify your torrent client... Even if you have the elementary C++ knowledge to do it, please don't. Before long people will start slamming Open Source Bittorrent clients for being con artist clients of choice, and that's the end of all FOSS clients on private trackers.
