Hi,

I'm using Kubuntu, that has version 2.2.1 in its repositories. Sorry if this was already implemented on 2.2.2

If the files (and subdirs) in a torrent are all inside a single "base" directory, then this base directory should be ignored. This allows to use another directory name than the one choosed by the torrent creator.

Sorry to talk about another client  , but check how uTorrent adds new torrent files... In ktorrent if I load a torrent containing:

Code: Select all
Base
  | subdir1
  | subdir2
  | file

I must have a Base dir on my filesystem. On utorrent, on the dialog file only appears:

Code: Select all
subdir1
subdir2
file

allowing me to have whatever name I want for the directory. This is usefull if using different trackers with torrents that have the same content but with different base name dirs.

I hope this gets implemented as this is THE feature that I put first place  and I really want to make the switch for ktorrent

Hm, I have idea how we can implement this.

How opening torrent looks now: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/7018 ... nowdi8.png
How colud it look: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6056 ... ionwn5.png

What I mean is that KTorrent could use BASE dir as default path and changing it would be quite easy then.

How about this :

1) Make it optional (with checkbox in that dialog)
2) Modify the location filled in by default :
If the save location we normally put in the dialog is /home/user/downloads and the base directory is foobar, we will put in /home/user/downloads/foobar

1) Is the most simple and wouldn't change the current behavior, Zajec's option and 2) change the behavior, and can cause confusion for existing users.

I still find second option better.
a) it's quite intuitive
b) it doesn't change layout of diablog ─ no confusing existing users
c) it doesn't add new checkbox ─ we don't make new users overflowed by amount of options

Maybe some other persons could comment these 2 solutions?

Option 2 it is, seeing that 2.2.3 is just around the corner, I'm not gonna add it in that release (last minute changes tend to result in bugs).

So it will be modified in the KDE4 version, and maybe we will backport it to 2.2.4 .

Hi,

Just tested 3.0.1KDE4 on my Ubuntu and this isn't implemented :(
Are there any plans to implement it?

Thanks for your work,
Regards

It will be part of 3.1, but I'm not sure anymore if it is going to be done like in my proposal.

First, thanks for implementing it :D I finally stopped using wine+uTorrent

but...

I'd liked Zajec implementation suggestion better, and I'll explain what doesn't feel right for now:

When I select a directory, KDE enters that directory immediately. Even if it didn't enter, I would select it :P Then I have to Cut-Paste the directory name from the directory to the base name. I don't like Cup-Paste

Another suggestion would be reducing the size for the base name, and putting a checkbox for something like "Last directory".

I'd like to vote for zajec's version too, with a "reset" button so you can have it revert the filenames back to the default.

It's not immediately obvious now that you can rename things, you have to mouse over them to get the info text. It makes it immediately obvious that you can rename the toplevel directory at least if it shows up in the box at the top.

I think people will adjust, and more people will realize we have the feature. A line of text above the file selection box with a short version of the mouseover text would probably be good too.

I loved when this got implemented :D but I've upgrated Ubuntu to 9.04, and so KTorrent was upgraded to 3.2.0... And this feature is gone

It's a problem of Ubuntu? was this removed?

Some time ago I suggested same thing as Zajec wrote. Just without images. I like this idea, it's how implemented in uTorrent and it's perfect.
I would like to see this in kTorrent.
This feature isn't implemented in 3.3dev.

What isn`t remembered never happened. Memory is merely a record. You just need to rewrite that record.

No, just double click the base directory name in the directory tree.

Since we added the possibility to edit the name of each file (and directory in the tree), using a separate line edit for the base directory name, was pointless, seeing you could do this in the tree itself.
