It would be nice if ktorrent could notice whether it needs to open a file r/w, and if it is already at 100%, simply open it read-only.
Reason: Sometimes so-called "mega-torrents" are posted that can contain several different sources. See, for example, some of the Grateful Dead on bt.etree.org The checkbox-selectable yes/no download feature works great for skipping parts that one already has. But it is friendlier to help re-seed pre-existing parts while downloading new ones. Currently to do that, one can queue the torrent (stopped), then go in and copy the already-have files over the empty files that ktorrent made, then hit 'check data integrity'. Ktorrent will checksum the files, notice they match, and mark them downloaded. Starting the torrent then downloads the needed files while seeding the pre-existing ones. It would be better to simply symlink to the previously-downloaded files rather than copying. But if the archive is kept on a read-only filesystem for a bit of extra "oops" protection, symlinking doesn't work because ktorrent tries to open everything read/write and those files can't be written to. So it would be nice if ktorrent could notice whether it needs to open a file r/w, and if it is already at 100%, simply open it read-only. Thanks! |
