Because I read somewhere that when most of the apps were ported to KDE4 that direct porting to other os's would be very easy.

no, as i said at the beginning ktorrent uses unix socket instead of qt socket, C file descriptor instead of qfile (but George already fixed this) that didn't work very well on windows
btw if you want to test/help there is a branch for the windows port now http://websvn.kde.org/branches/ktorrent/windows_port/

install mingw, cmake, qt and kdelibs on windows using either emerge or the kdewin installer http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title ... E4/Windows http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title ... stallation
install svn or tortoisesvn for windows and checkout svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/branches ... ndows_port
create a build dir, use cmake to generate the makefile and compile

How long do you think it will be until we have a completely working windows version?

well for now all major issues seems to be fixed, so I think that I could even push it to emerge/kdewin installer this week

There are still bugs we need to fix, before I would consider it release worthy. Among the things I have noticed :

- UPnP is totally not working (most likely a KIO issue, could be solved in a later version of KDE, I'm on 4.0.65)
- Torrents seem to stop quite frequently with some seek errors
- I have run into a to many open files error (on a single file torrent no less)

Lets say that I just want to install kTorrent on my computer, how much space do you think it will take up?

It would probably need close to half a gig, because you need to have KDE installed to install ktorrent.

I installed kdewindows today, it didnt have ktorrent in it, but it was a couple hundred megs.

I dont know how large it would be if you wanted to just install kde with only the required libraries, maybe one of the developers could fill us in on that.

George, how long do you think it will take to completely port it and get it running?

In a couple of weeks, my plan is to do the merge operation from the windows port to trunk before 3.1rc1.

That's very good to hear.

Will you be providing any precompiled versions for windows users?
