I would recommend changing the search URL for thepiratebay.org to http://thepiratebay.org/search/FOOBAR because the old URL causes problems when clicking links to sort torrents.

I have updated the URL and I also kicked out torrentspy while I was at it.

is there a reason for not using opensearch and let users add and remove search engines? It looks easy to implement and would boost usability

We were not aware of the existence of opensearch.
