Another release : 3.1beta1

Mon Apr 28, 2008 6:12 pm
KTorrent 3.1 is moving closer and closer, in preparation for this, we give you 3.1beta1. Still filled with bugs, but ready to be tested by brave men and women. Well, it should work pretty well, some new features still need some testing, but they mostly should work OK. (Yes, I'm a lousy salesman :-)

Amongst the new things we have added are :
- HTTP webseeding
- A mediaplayer plugin, supporting audio and video
- Preview sizes can now be configured
- A location column has been added in the main view
- Assured download and upload speeds per torrent
- Group policies, set default speed limits, max seed time, max ratio and default download location for all torrents of the group
- A feature to suppress sleep when torrents are running
- A redesigned tracker tab, now also showing how many times a torrent was downloaded
- Trackers can now be disabled or enabled
...

And this is just the tip of the iceberg, just take a look at the ChangeLog, for further details on all the features we added and all the bugs we fixed.

Yay! Go KTorrent! I have always used this program since I found out about it. There was one feature I was missing though. I would like to be able to right-click on a torrent I am using, and choose to save the torrent file somewhere. I usually don't save the torrent files, just have the downloads running. Is this feature added? Otherwise I request it. :D

For some strange reason I don't have this, but put the following line in mediamodel.h :

#include <util/constants.h>

Put it after the other include at the top of the file.

I will update the package later today.

There is no such feature at the moment, but you can get to it easily, right click on a torrent, then select open directory -> temporary directory. This will open a directory with some files in it, one of those files is named torrent, and it is the torrent file.

Also there is a feature to copy all torrents you open to a directory. You can enable it in the settings dialog.

Yay! To bad all I get when I try to use the mediaplayer plugin is a gray tab with the control bar about %25 of the way up from the bottom of said tab.

Anyhoo, ebuild for 3.1b1 at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-690232.html

That said, what are the chances of getting rssfeed plugin by 3.1?

Don't know, that all depends on how fast Alan is making progress. It is quite possible that rc1 is pushed back a week or two, to get the plugin in.

Maybe the proper video codec isn't installed.

Near as i can tell i have all necessary codecs installed for xine, gstreamer, and mplayer. I can play the file fine from mplayer and xine... What does the plugin use for playback anyway?
EDIT:Er... ok, felt stupid about the same time I pushed submit. Yeah, Phonon is using xine which can play the file fine.

Ok, another interesting quirk. If I try to play something, close the tab it was open in, then try to play it again or play something else it doesn't open a new tab. It starts running and I get the audio, but no new tab.

Yeah! I really hope it gets in too! One of my favorite plugins at the moment.
