Hello, very often when I am downloading a torrent, that is taking all day, I need to use Gmail. Gmail and Ktorrent don't mix well so normally I just turn the speed of upload to 5 and download to 5 also, then wait a bit and use gmail with no problem. Next I change both back to unlimited.
The problem comes when I forget to put them back! Then I often find 24 hours later that the torrent has been set to 5 the whole time, sucks! So what I want are 2 things. First a one click pause or slow. Second a timer on it. Something that I can set to whatever minutes, lets say 40 minutes. Then I can click pause and 40 minutes later the computer auto unpauses. Thanks for a great ktorrent! Douglas |

Why would this have anything to do with GMail? If you leave your upload/download speeds unlimited it is nothing unusual if websites load very slowly. First, try to limit your speeds to about 2/3 of your capacities.
I read some really great article about why BitTorrent clogs your line, but can't find it now. Basically it was saying that incoming packets from many different sources arrive very randomly, and too many packets may arrive at the same time, causing the buffer at your ISP to overrun and drop non-BT packets. To avoid this, you can try to decrease the number of total connections if it doesn't affect your speed too much. On the other hand, the client may send large chunks of data in relatively long intervals, also overrunning the ISP's buffer. Try lowering the "Network sleep interval" (in Advanced). Though this will increase CPU usage. To test the responsiveness of your network, try pinging www.google.com and see how the latency varies. |

I have no idea why it does but it does. It is not that it becomes slow, it does not work at all. Other sites work slowly but don't break. #I read some really great article about why BitTorrent clogs your line, but #can't find it now. Kubuntu standard install. ktorrent 2.2.5 Thanks for the ideas. Douglas |
