I'd love to see a checkbox (disabled by default) enabling users to download the start of a file faster than the end. This way video being downloaded could be previewed much more succesfully.

Cheers

Love Ktorrent

Preview of video and audio files has been included for a very long time.

Yes i know, the preview feature is nice but it would work a whole lot better if the "torrent engine" chose to download chunks in a less random and more sequential order. Would anyone else like behavior like this in ktorrent?

{Edit]
Swarm player (http://trial.p2p-next.org/) attempts this method of 'mostly linear' downloading and (forgive me it's been a while) - I'm pretty sure Azureus has a checkbox in the options for "prefer the beginning of file" which worked quite nicely.

Thanks for all the work on Ktorrent - Its definetly my favorite client ever, but i believe this little change could make it shine even brighter

It is a good feature for many reasons:

1. It would help to prevent downloading entire 'fake' videos.

2. Many thumbnail generators use the first frames of a video to generate the images to represent the file.

3. File metadata is usually found at the beginning of the file or at its end. You could extract it w/o having to download the whole file.

The preview feature is meant for this, you can even tweak the amount which is downloaded with higher priority (in the advanced settings).

Oh, that I did not know. I never imagined that feature would download the first chunks, just thought it was weird to have a preview command because of the way the torrent protocol works.
