ktorrent will stay in background when exited

hello,
i run latest packaged stable KT on Mandriva 2009.0 (albeit still with KDE 3.5), and i noticed 2 problems :
-1- exiting KT through menu (or with Ctrl+Q) does exit the UI, but not the task itself. After 10s of minutes, it still runs in the background with almost 0% cpu but all the memory still used. This is repeatable.
-2- Bug/Feature request : the pause button does indeed liberate the bandwith (sort of, after a while), but the memory used stays the same, and the cpu usage never drop under 40+%. So, if i have to do an important task locally or on the Net, i first have to exit KT, then kill the task in command line. I thought the intended use of Pause was to free the ressources for other work for a while, without having to stop it all. Missed something ?

Thanks otherwise for a good tool.

i forgot to mention that in first post : KT stays in background only when exited in "pause" mode.

KT version 3.1.4 using KDE 4.1.2 (but on a globally 3.5 KDE box).

Oh, and i use between 70 and 90% of memory, whatever how many torrents i downloazd or upload. Even when paused. I got 2Gb ram.

yes, the tray icon is enabled - but it disappears when i exit KT (which is normal), even if the process remains active.
BTW, i have now another problem : probably due to the several force closings (killall ktorrent), the plugins doesn't show any longer under the torrents, whichever i activate ... but the queue manager is still there.

Hello, i am baffled : i cannot today reproduce the behavior any longer, while yesterday it worked like magic. The only change i can figure is that i downloaded 2 or 3 official library updates (gnutls26 and associated libs).
Ah, yes, i used the conf wizard to set slots speeds and slot numbers, too.
Beats me.

back again- when running long enough

Yesterday i had restarted ktorrent, and it was fine and dandy; with ktorrent up for more than a day, the cpu and mem usage went up and up again, without new torrents. I had 90+% cpu and 70+% mem at lunchtime. And when pausing, it decreased only a tiny wee bit. and when exited, it stayed in the background.
I just killed it, then restarted ktorrent : cpu and memory are back at low levels, and exit is ok.

I sounds like a memory leakage to me.

I made some screen captures, which i can send you (or a link to them) per email.

UPDATE
I updated to v3.1.5, and the "stay in memory" problem seems to have vanished. Cpu and memory consumption are down to more acceptable levels (50-60%). I still have this problem with the plugins not showing.

I too have found same Ktorrent version 3.1.4 using KDE 4.1.2.
orginally was using version 3.1.3, then removed and installed v. 3.1.4.

I am not getting any tracker scrapes? or client is still running after stopping and shutting down. If I restart client up again I am showing up as either double leeching or double seeding.

on one tracker I am now showing as 3 seeds even though I have shutdown linux.

I think problem might be is Ktorrent not requesting tracker scrape on shutdown of torrent.

Have done a stop event on the tracker involved?

@stoeptegel
yes,

went back to site showed I was still seeding. I did a total shut down of Mandriva for up to 10 minutes . Started back up, started Ktorrent again and showed that I was seeding same torrent twice. So thats why it looks like there is no tracker scrape.

I have pm'd the admin on these sites, maybe something on ther end?

BTW it is not just one site

Stopped events should be sent when ktorrent shuts down.

Can you post the log file (~/.kde4/share/apps/ktorrent/log) ?
