First is very simple to add: Column "Remaining". Under Windows machine when I using uTorrent client such column is handy. Actually I never interested how much I have downloaded already - only how mush is left.
Second is very simple to add too, but very useful also. To export torrent file for particular download. Often download starts just from browser without saving torrent-file somewhere, it's boring to look every time what download had completed to remove those torrent files manually. But there can be situation when you want to move your download to other client/OS/machine/etc. For now I have to grep ~/.kde4/share/apps/ktorrent directory to look for that torrent file, then copy and rename it. Exporting torrent-file from KTorrent menu would be great. |

Your first point, I agree, i am always calculating in my head how many MB left.
Your second is already possible, look in the 'Application' Tab in the settings and set up a location to copy the .torrent files by setting 'Copy torrent files to' to where you want to see them, and the files in there will have their proper names already. But only torrents you start after this change will appear there. (at least thats what 2.2.5 did, unless newer versions copy already running torrents there, which would be a nice feature to add if not already present, i now have 3.2.1 but not tested as I always set this setting just after install) |

Thanks for the suggestion, but this is not actually what I am looking for. Such directory could be used as backup and after some period of time will grow with unmaintained torrent files, after which I will just delete all trash from it. I actually want to avoid huge list of torrents for all times I have used KTorrent. And also I can't guess from first glance what torrent file is exactly for that record I am looking at in KTorrent now.
File -> Export Torrent... What can be simpler |

What could be simpler ---- Well how about a new directory, similar to the one that already exists that I mentioned earlier but only contains the torrents that KTorrent is using now. It would automate your 'File->Export Torrent' idea, but would require a little more programming to copy new and remove old torrents but should be easy to code.

I can implement exporting torrent files by myself in 10 minutes, this is not a question of coding time. Anyway, application interface should stay on use-cases: what goals users may have and how obviously they could be implemented. It is not obvious way to copy torrent files by searching for them in particular directory, which user would not want to specify at all. Also I constantly see torrent files named like "mytracker_123456.torrent". Without special parser you will not have a chance to understand what this torrent represents.
Thanks! Just forgot about this workaround, it can be temporary used. But from my opinion end-users should not have access to these files manually, especially with read-write access. |

If you used the setting that already exists in the Application tab 'copy torrent files to' then you wont get such cryptic file names, you will get the original filename as it came from the link it was downloaded from. But I was talking about an extension to this idea - another folder that only contains the files KTorrent is actively using - with none of this "mytracker_123456.torrent" stuff, just all the .torrent files you are wanting without having to press anything! |

I told about the same. Have you ever met tracker, which stores torrent files with encoded names? "mytracker_123456.torrent", "movie_trailer.torrent" - these are exactly file names particular site gives you to download. What is under the 123456 or what movie this torrent is for? And the real torrent name is inside this torrent file, distinct from the file name. And you know what? Most of time I am really don't care about file name, this is some sort of middle layer, that could be hidden from end user.
This is a cool idea, except the situations I have told upper. Actually user don't want some secret rule to make simple things. Use-cases, man! Goal and chain of actions user have to do to reach it. What use-case with you idea? I suppose next: 1.First - user should know that such option present in KTorrent at all. Otherwise exporting torrents will be lost for him. 2. Next user should specify that directory manually. If he forgot about this or don't want to do this - exporting torrents will be lost for him. 3. Next user should open his favorite file manager, step into that directory and look by his eyes for that torrent he want to export. Then copy it manually. The ambiguous things are always not a best choice. But at high level user should not stuck with complex quest how to make simple things. |
