Bad performance on NFS share

Wed Mar 17, 2010 9:50 pm
During downloads (faster then 300kB/s) to NFS share, ktorrent interface becomes almost frozen and responding very slow with big delays (up to 5 seconds).

I've looked into strace logs and noticed that ktorrent opens and closes file every time it writes out another chunk. That could be a problem if NFS issues fsync on file close. Anyway I don't see much point in doing open/close file 10 times a second!!!

It would be great if ktorrent was keeping file open, during download. For those who are concerned with data consistency on the disk, there could be a parameter which defines time between explicit fsync's.

I need to test NFS performance, and see what it is causing the slowdown.
