Bandwidth estimation

I love the "recommended settings" feature under network settings, but would it not be even more wonderful if ktorrent was able to estimate your available bandwidth and adapt your network settings automatically accordingly? There are tools and websites like speedtest.net that estimate the available bandwidth quite accurate.

Thanks in advance for considering this idea :D

Your request is nice, but, how often does someone's bandwidth change? Most people setup their Internet Provider plan and then don't change it for years.

People using KT on their desktop machine would probably not use it for the reason you mentioned.

But I could actually see the bandwidth change quite often for people using laptops. Mainly because they probably connects to a number of different WiFI's, but in the near future I guess there will be alot of users connecting to the cellular networks and even using it for BT traffic. Here in Sweden USB dongles for HSDPA connections is used by alot of people (LTE dongles has even been introduced. Not on a large scale though). Those connections are bound to have fluctuating bandwidth (maybe to fluctuating?).

I think this feature request would make an interesting plugin or such. I will however not make any effort to implement it myself since I only use BT on my desktop with a stable bandwidth.

I would like to hear Georges opinion on this :)

You know me :D I am using KT at home and on some other wifi's / ethernet connections with different bandwidth available. Also, available bandwidth may depend on activity of other hosts on the network and time of day (sometimes the net is a lot busier than other times :) )
I am happy that you like the idea, but I can understand if it is not implemented right now... It can take some time to implement, there is a workaround now (doing it manually)... On the other hand, it would be handy and admit it... it would be cool too :D

Greetings!
