Question about updating to 4.0.0

Tue Jun 08, 2010 3:23 pm
Hi,
There are a lot of bugs in KTorrent 4.0.0 / libktorrent 1.0.0 that was fixed in svn:
Changes in libktorrent 1.0.1:
- Make sure that KT binds correctly on systems with net.ipv6.bindv6only set to 1 (238688)
- Fix bug causing seeding of readonly files to fail with no free disk space errors (239023)
- Fix crashes caused by ServerInterface::newConnection being called in µTP thread (240003, 239944)
- Fix crash caused by uncaught exception when saving DHT table (240294)
- Fix bug causing lots of diskspace activity on ext3 due to the SIGBUS prevention feature
- Fix bug causing imported bytes to be counted as downloaded bytes in tracker announces

Changes in ktorrent 4.0.1:
- Make sure that the proper encoding is used when loading syndication filters
- Display filename if TagLib doesn't know the title of a file in the mediaplayer plugin
- Fix memory leak in plasma dataengine (238948)
- Use routers XML file URL to distinguish between UPnP routers
- Make sure that there are no uncaught exceptions (223243)

We have now KTorrent 3.3.4 in Fedora 12.
Is there plans to support 3.3.x in the future?
What would be better for Fedora 12? Update to 4.0.0, backport bug fixes from svn or wait for next bugfix release?
When next 4.0.x release planed?

4.0.1 is going to be released this week, not sure yet which day.

The 3.3 branch is done, I'm not planning a new release in that branch.

Now there are KTorrent 3.3.4 in Fedora 12 stable and 4.0.2 in updates-testing.
I am thinking about submitting 4.0.2 to stable.
Is it safe to update from 3.3.4 to 4.0.2?

There was many changes between 3.3 branch and 4.
In 4.0.0 version was many bugs but 4.0.2 looks stable enough.
So, if there no other issues with updating like this viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3797
and you think that it is safe then 4.0.2 can be submitted to stable.

The stability of 4.0.2 is OK.

I haven't been able to reproduce the CPU usage problem yet.

No, do not upgrade to version 4. I upgraded to 4.0.2 in Debian, and it deleted all my torrents and all my settings. The torrents' data is still there, and resume works.

It also looks really **** - all the buttons fade in, instead of reacting quickly. It's like I'm not even getting the fast reaction times I paid for in my LCD monitor. This seems more likely to be a KDE issue, though, not Ktorrent.
